World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Worgen Starting Zone Walkthrough – Let The Fur Fly!

The World of Warcraft: Cataclysm has come and something bad is happening in Gilneas. The Worgen are assaulting the defensive city and it’s time for you to join the fight to save your home.

The Worgen character creation screen presents a new twist for World of Warcraft players. You can select your gender and class like always (Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Priest, Death Knight, Mage, Warlock, and Druid are available), but the twist comes into play when deciding how your new character will look. Each change that you make to your skin/fur color, face, hair, and ears alters both your Worgen and Human form. You can switch back and forth between the two forms on the creation screen until you are happy with how they look. Time to enter the world.

The introductory cinematic gives you a quick summary of Gilneas’ history and lands on you in your human form. Many threats have arisen against your people, but there is a new one that seems to be a bit more concerning than Orcs, Undead, and civil war.

Talk to Prince Liam Greymane to find out what is going on. The city is under lockdown and you need to leave as soon as possible. Run to the… dead lieutenant? What’s all that noise?

Head back to the prince and discover that the Worgen were waiting for you to leave the area before they attacked (how nice of them). Offer your assistance to the prince and Gwen. Gwen would like you to collect some supplies; the prince would like you to take a more active role by killing some Worgen and rescuing some villagers. The Worgen around you will not actively attack you unless you take a swing at them, the ones that are inside the villager’s homes are a bit angrier, be ready to be attacked most of the time. Note that the Rampaging Worgen will become enraged when their health gets low, apparently they CAN get angrier, who knew?

After your daring rescue the prince tells you to go save yourself while he and his men make the typical “I’m really macho” stand. Get a move on and go find Gwen. Gwen will tell you to go find your trainer. They are all taking an active role in dealing with the Worgen problem, the warrior trainer and the level five elite (why is this necessary?!) mage trainer are killing a few. Learn a new skill and practice it on a few nearby Worgen (a nice change from the other races training dummies).

After some practice you will be sent to King Genn Greymane with the other survivors. The king knows of a potential ally. Just one small problem, the ally happens to be incarcerated in the nearby prison at the moment… Lord Godfrey asks you to kill a few Worgen while rescuing the rebel. There a few dozen on your way to the prison so help the guards out as you head over to talk to the warden. He sends you upstairs where the prisoners are making a stand. Be careful at the top of the stairs, there are two Worgen that are fairly close to each other, I pulled both and almost didn’t make it.

Time to ask Lord Darius Crowley for help as he punches and occasionally kicks attacking Worgen to death (how did they imprison this guy?!). He asks for some assistance while stabilizing his fallen friend. Crowley and his men don’t really need your help, so just make sure that you don’t pull to much aggro and hit a few Worgen to look like you’re contributing. Crowley agrees to help and tell you the location of artillery that his men snuck into the city. Head to the king and tell him that the shirtless one-eyed man has joined your cause.

Greymane attempts to ignore that someone snuck cannons into his city without him knowing and asks you to go retrieve them.

Head to Josiah Avery’s home and talk to… uh-oh. Lorna Crowley saves you, but that bite can’t be a good thing… Surely it’s just a scratch, ignore that sinking feeling and help Lorna clear the way for the arsenal with one of her mastiffs. Return the dog and head to the king with an update on the arsenal.

Now to blast away some… awww… The king wants you to rescue the alchemist Krennan Aranas (I would have left him there, but he saved the princess and I don’t want to anger the king). Ride the horse (you have no control over the horse so just be ready to click the rescue button) to the shirtless (I’m sensing a trend here) alchemist and rescue him. Now to not blast some Worgen away (when do I get to use a canon?). Godfrey sends you to the king. Note the Afflicted Gilnean’s along the way. How’s that bite wound doing?

Report to the king and listen to him, the prince, and the now dressed and armed Lord Darius Crowley. Stick with Crowley and go for another vehicle ride. Run through the thousands of Worgen (poor horse) while ensuring that you have their attention with torches. Report to Tobias when the ride is over.

Whoohoo! Cannon time! Blast Worgen away until you get bored (if Crowley runs by with another player you can get about fifty in one shot). Tell Tobias the good news and head into the chapel to report to Crowley. Crowley suggests killing more Worgen, lend a hand while trying to avoid the hallway (I made about twelve friends by accident). Have fun laying waste to the Worgen and report to the now nervous Lord Crowley.

The Worgen have stopped coming. That can’t be good… Uh-oh, cinema time.

Watch the fall of the chapel and learn what you have become. Godfrey wants you to be put out of your miserable fanged life. King Genn Greymane and Krennan Aranas have hope, and an idea. Your time in Azeroth has just begun.
