World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Goblin Starting Zone Walkthrough – Wasn’t There An Island There?

The World of Warcraft: Cataclysm has arrived! Whether you waited up all night or got some sleep and snagged it in the morning (slackers) the Goblins and Worgen are now available for expansion owners to play. Here’s a closer look at the Goblins and the island of Kezan.

Goblins have a whopping eight classes to choose from: Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Priest, Death Knight, Shaman, Mage, and Warlock. You can change their skin, face, hair style, hair color, and their ears. Make you character the way you want and enter the new World of Warcraft.

You start as a newly promoted boss (and apparently an up and coming soon to be Trade Prince/Princess). Profits are number one in the world of Goblins, so when your assistant Sassy Hardwrench learns that something is wrong in the mine she sends over the best person for the job: you. Run past the dueling mage and warlock trainers and talk to your foreman.

Your Troll slaves are acting out and impeding your profits, on top of this there are worms eating what you’re mining. How’s a Goblin gonna make any macroons with all these shenanigans going on?! Head into the mines and remind the Troll’s whose boss while taking out the worms you come across. Then, head back to the foreman.

He spills the beans about your party and asks you to deliver the drinks for your party.

After giving Sassy the drinks you’re told to go pick up your pals in the company car (who’s in charge around here again?). The car is extremely fun to ride in and even has a radio. Grab your buddies and head back to Sassy.

Sassy sends you to save the footbomb game (Did you think that there would be no bombs in the Goblin starting area?), make sure you grab the other quests that pop up because they are all in the same section of town. One quest involves “visiting” some people that owe you money and the other sends you to the bank to get money for a new outfit.

The beatdown quest is fairly easy (it’s below the road if you’re trying to figure out where they are) and only takes a minute or two. The bank sends you to fetch some clothing. Now, head to Coach Crosscheck to learn the scoop about the game. The boxes of supplies are nearby so grab them and return. The footbomb game is a fun way to learn about vehicle mechanics. Kick the field goal and… summon Deathwing? Apparently he was rooting for the other team and decides to mess with the volcano that your island happens to be sitting on. That’s not important though, you have a party to go to!

Train on your way back (you should be level 3 by now) and check in with Sassy. Grab your clothes and head over to the party. Enjoy yourself while entertaining your guests. When this gets boring (or when you get tired of handing out buckets like I did), head back over to Sassy.

Pirates show up to crash your party and Sassy sends you out to save the day (I felt like her assistant at this point). Save the day and learn that you’re still doomed. Mount Kajaro is going to blow and the only way to save yourself is by paying Trade Prince Gallywix a billion macroons (guess I should have invited him to the party…). Snag the quests that pop up after you talk to Sassy and get to work on saving yourself.

The mine isn’t too difficult. The ores are everywhere and are only being guarded by one Troll at a time. Deal with the troll and blast the ore. Collect and repeat.

The looter quest is probably the easiest one you’ll get. The looters are everywhere and are about as easy to kill as the pirates were. Mug them and head to the bank.

Breaking into the bank consists of the funnest WoW minigame I’ve played. Click the buttons that pop up and enjoy the random noises that your tools make.

After acquiring your life savings, don your cap and head to Gallywix’ compound. This is the trickiest quest you’ll do. You need to enter each building while staying away from the boars that are patrolling the area. If a boar smells you, your cover will be blown and you will receive a fairly harsh beatdown. Grab the goods and return to your compound. Train when you hit level five, turn in the quests, and learn the bad news from Sassy.

After all that hard work you are still a bit short on cash, but this can easily be solved. Blow up your place and collect the insurance. It’s a bit disheartening, but it must be done. Destroy your business, collect the money and ride with Sassy to the boat.

You get double crossed by about eighteen people and become the Trade Prince’s slave. Watch the cinema as you leave your small island home forever. Your starting quests are over, but there is plenty for a young Goblin to do in the new World of Warcraft.
